fuck yeah sex education: LOST: SELF-RESPECT (REBLOG FOR SIGNAL BOOST)

gublerwood:

I don’t know, you guys. I’m really at a loss here. I can’t find my self-respect. It seems I have misplaced it. Here’s a photo of me with my self-respect fully intact:

See? Look at how happy I look? I’m fully clothed and you can just see the self-respect radiating off of me….

Side-by-Side Comparison of Average-Sized Woman with a Supermodel Will Blow Out Your Mindhole. via Pajiba

Striking, isn’t it? Here are the statistics that accompany the photospread in Plus Model magazine (via Fashionista):

  • Twenty years ago the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today, she weighs 23% less.
  • Ten years ago plus-size models averaged between size 12 and 18. Today the need for size diversity within the plus-size modeling industry continues to be questioned. The majority of plus-size models on agency boards are between a size 6 and 14, while the customers continue to express their dissatisfaction.
  • Most runway models meet the Body Mass Index physical criteria for Anorexia.
  • 50% of women wear a size 14 or larger, but most standard clothing outlets cater to sizes 14 or smaller.

As always, I’m not promoting a certain size being better than the other or that bigger women are better than thinner women. That being said, we need more diversity in our fashion industry. That means different sizes, proportions, races, and gender.

kimboosan:

I think what I admire most about London Andrews is, actually, not her stunning body (which is A-MAZ-ING) but her obvious self-confidence. It comes through in her photos that she enjoys her body, finds pleasure in sharing images of it, and is comfortable in her skin. I’m 42 and never felt that way for a single day of my life; I hope to, I’m trying to, but…in the meantime, I will admire London Andrews.

Agreed.
